1- Can TYPE 1 diabetes be prevented or cured?
Fact: Currently, there is no cure for type 1 diabetes, and it cannot be prevented. Research is ongoing to find ways to develop potential cures, such as pancreatic cell transplants or advances in artificial pancreas technologies.
2- Is eating too much sugar the cause TYPE 1 diabetes?
Fact: Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition, not linked to diet or lifestyle. The immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, causing type 1 diabetes. Diet or sugar consumption is not a factor in its development.
3- Is TYPE 1 diabetes only diagnosed in children?
Fact: While type 1 diabetes is often diagnosed in children and adolescents, adults can develop it as well. This form of the disease is referred to as Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) and has a slower onset than in children.
4- Is it true that people with TYPE 1 diabetes can’t eat sweets or carbohydrates?
Fact: People with type 1 diabetes can eat a wide variety of foods, including sweets and carbohydrates, as long as they manage their insulin levels. They need to monitor blood sugar and adjust insulin doses to balance blood glucose.
5- Can TYPE 1 diabetes be cured with lifestyle changes or alternative treatments?
Fact: Currently, there is no cure for type 1 diabetes. It requires lifelong insulin therapy. While maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important for managing the condition, it cannot replace insulin or cure the disease.
6- Is Insulin a cure for TYPE 1 diabetes?
Fact: Insulin is not a cure; it is a life-saving treatment that helps manage blood sugar levels. People with type 1 diabetes must monitor their glucose and administer insulin, but this does not reverse or eliminate the disease.
7- Can Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) eliminate the need for blood sugar tests?
Fact: While CGMs significantly reduce the need for finger-prick blood sugar tests, they may not fully replace them. Occasionally, a finger-prick test might be required to confirm a CGM reading or calibrate the device, depending on the model.
8- Can Insulin pumps automatically manage diabetes without my involvement?
Fact: Insulin pumps help deliver insulin continuously, but they still require your input. People with diabetes need to monitor their blood sugar levels, adjust insulin doses, and input carb counts when eating. Some advanced pumps work with CGMs in automated systems, but your management is still necessary.
9- Is Diabetes technology only for people with severe diabetes?
Fact: Diabetes technology, like CGMs and insulin pumps, is beneficial for many people with diabetes, regardless of the severity. These tools can help improve glucose control, reduce complications, and make diabetes management easier for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
10- Are Smart insulin pens and pumps complicated to use?
Fact: While these devices may seem complex, most are designed with user-friendly interfaces and training provided to ensure proper usage. Many systems now include mobile apps that offer guidance and real-time insights, making them accessible for most users.
